STREETWISE

'Streetwise' is a targeted national grassroots development program designed to offer youth from all walks of life the opportunity to become actively involved in skateboarding in Australia.

StreetWise provides youth in all areas of Australia with the opportunity to be involved in skateboarding clinics conducted by some of Australia's best skaters who have completed the Australian Sports Commissions (ASC) National Coach Accreditation Scheme (NCAS) skateboarding course.

The one or two day clinics embrace the principle of continued learning to stretch beyond boundaries and include a Mammoth Skate Pack for all participants..

Taroom StreetWise, April 2/3

Timmy Black and myself drove a good eight hours with a car full of skateboards, helmets, giveaways, and camera gear to celebrate the birth of another skate park with a two day StreetWise workshop at Taroom, Southern Rural Queensland. We both received our Level 1 Skateboard Coach Accreditation at Kingaroy not to long beforehand, as the PCYC their needed to get a bunch of their locals accredited. As such, a few of the Kingaroy coaches we made friends with came along to help out and get their practical experience component ticked off.

Timmy Black remarked on the experience…

"The towns recently had a awesome little park built just in time for youth week. Rad little wooden ramps and for the small space they had to work with everything flowed smoothly. The first day we had about 40 kids show up. It was great to see all the Taroom locals and others from not so near towns come and try Skateboarding for there first time. Everyone left with the skate buzz."

Tim blogged the Taroom, and King Of Roy the following weekend over here.

Melinda Petty of the Banana Shire emailed me after the event…
"Thanks again for everything your team did in Taroom over the weekend. All feedback so far has been great!"

Adam Ritchie, who works with the youth of Biloela, a neighbouring town, helped run a miniature skate comp between clinics, which was a welcomed surprise from our end. Adam was impressed by the day and plans to run a StreetWise in Biloela over the Winter school holidays.

*Fast learner Maki won a setup for most improved, here he is dropping in for the 3rd time ever.

I managed to get an interview with ABC radio to promote the clinic, its was my first radio interview so I was pretty nervous, they ended up blogging it over here.
