King Of Roy Skateboarding Festival, April 9/10
This was a StreetWise and a Competition rolled into one. Michael Eadie is the branch manager of PCYC South Burnett, and is the driver behind the newly formed Skateboarding South Burnett. Read the 'King Of Roy' SbA blog to get a better idea what the project is about click here.
Timmy Black and myself were on the road again for this one, joining us was filmer Michael Pearse and senior coach Andreas Switter. Micky filmed the entire weekend, his clip has curtains in this blog, and can also be viewed in the ABC Bay Wide story over here.
Rather than put up dozens of photos here, find 'South Burnett Skateboarding' on Facebook where you can view all of Timmy's awesome shots of the King Of Roy Skateboarding Festival. Here's just one…

*The Top 3 Beginners. Now they all have Santa Cruz skateboards, more importantly, now they all have skateboards!
Quirindi, April 11/12
Liverpool Plains Shire Council hosted a two-day Streetwise in Quirindi, Rural NSW. Owen Ward and Brad Stock of Newcastle Skate Shop traveled a fair few kilometers to get out there, and were greeted with an minimalistic skate park.

*Quirindi skatepark. You can see Owen knackered after a day of teaching kickturns.
Quirindi kids who were trying skateboarding for the first time were lucky as Owen brought up a bunch of spare setups from the shop for them to use. All SbA's skateboards were already in use elsewhere, a testament to our demand in Youth Week. Unfortunately, the photos Brad took on his proper camera, not his iphone, disappeared. Belinda EyKamp, of the Liverpool Plains Shire Council was very happy with how the weekend went, kids and parents alike leaving satified.
--- ORIGINAL ARTICLE
'King Of Roy' Skateboarding Festival is geared to go off this weekend at Kingaroy Skatepark in Southern Rural Queensland. Their local Skateboarding culture is still in its infancy, which is why the competition and clinic combo is aimed at all skaters getting involved, regardless of skill level. Mountain Dew, Independent, Santa Cruz, and Zoo York have shown love by sponsoring the event, which means their down for Skateboarding in the Sticks.
This year, SbA and PCYC South Burnett have been working closely to build a sustainable skateboarding community in the area. PCYC South Burnett generously footed the bill so Skateboarding elders in their area could become Nationally Recognised Skateboarding Coaches. This means in future months and years the South Burnett community can have their young motivated to skateboard properly, and regularly. This project is somewhat of a pilot, and should it be successful in getting more kids on the positive tangent of Skateboarding, SbA aim to build relationships such as this with PCYC's Australia-wide. Respect to PCYC South Burnett for pioneering the concept.
