WA competitors in the YMCA HQ’s Summer Skate Series have been contending with some extreme heat, and this weekend’s competition was no different. The sixth competition of the Series was held in Geraldton; 5 hours North of Perth and the temperature reached over 40 Degrees. The sea breeze, shade, free water and Mountain Dew made the day bearable for the skaters.

A collision during a free skate left a scooter rider with a broken nose and teeth through his lip – showing the importance of giving way whilst using the Park!

Geraldton skaters showed off there skills, including Solley Goddard who jumped two bins. Congratulations to all the winners of the Geraldton Qualifying Round:

15 & Under Boys/Girls
First – Taylor Coffin
Second – Ben Carr
Third – Lochie Crear

18 & Under Boys
First – Levi Hellmrich
Second – Dylan Lancaster
Third – Adam Lynam

Open (includes 18 & Under Sponsored Skaters)
First – Solley Goddard
Second – Tony Vuong
Third – Jake Howe

Placegetters of each division received prizes including skateboards and wheels from Folklore (http://www.folklore.com.au/). BMX and Scooter heats were also held due to the demand on the day, and winners were rewarded with shirts from Bossen. Placegetters of all divisions qualify for the Championship Event at YMCA HQ on Saturday 13th February 2010. Winners at this event are then eligible to compete amongst Australia’s best in Skateboarding Australia Dew Series Final in Sydney (Note: No Open Division at Nationals).

The next round of the Series is being held at the Maddington Skate Park (Corner of Westfield Street and Carabeen Street, Maddington). Visit www.hq.org.au for more comp dates and locations.
