Shockwave is a festival designed by, for and with young people and the wider community of the Central West to celebrate, exchange and learn about creative arts and as an opportunity for young people’s artistic expression.
This is the second year of the annual Shockwave Youth Arts Festival. Young people from around the Central West Queensland region will descend on Blackall’s Memorial Hall and Skate Park to enjoy two days of performance, exhibitions and activities.
Bands including The Coalition Crew and Myth And Tropics will headline the 2010 festival, with support from soloist Melinda Wells. A swag of local artists will also present their talents through music, dance, theatre, photography, visual arts, film and multimedia over two performance areas. Other activities and workshops include skate deck painting, costumed video blogging, music production, tie dying, temporary tattooing, lantern making, drama activities, body percussion, circus, skate demos and lessons and laser skirmish.
Shockwave forms part of Way Out West, a creative skills development program working with young people aged 12 to 25 from throughout the Central West region. Shockwave is delivered through the financial support of the Australia Council for the Arts, Blackall-Tambo Regional Council, Rural Young Males & Alcohol Project, Regional Arts Development Fund, and Human Ventures.
Shockwave aims to build young people’s skills and learning in event production, graphic design, marketing and creative arts such as visual art and installation, performance and multimedia including photography, film and animation. The program also fosters further exploration into new and innovative creative projects and employment pathways in the Central West Queensland Region for young people.
Shockwave was conceptualised by program participants and has been planned and delivered by a core team of young people living in Central West Queensland, in collaboration with Human Ventures.
