Event #5 of the SbA Dew Series presented by Arnette returned to the iconic Adelaide City Skatepark in South Australia, over the weekend. Australia’s most extensive inner city facility as well as South Australia’s biggest skatepark played host to skateboarding’s future stars when the Australian tour round returned to the Adelaide for the third straight year.

Thanks to the Adelaide City Council’s (ACC) strong commitment to skateboarding, the event again returned to the home of skateboarding in the state. A usual with the city park the nine & ten stair were the center of attention throughout the day, with a few heavy slams the price to pay for missed attempts.

With over a thousand cans of Mountain Dew downed and thirty fresh hair cuts from Arnette, Adelaide residents all went home with something from the event.

Warm ups down the 9

The 15 Years & Under Boys was the first division to drop in and as usual the youngest skaters at the park were frothing to get a golden ticket to April’s national final. Making up the largest number of skaters in a division for the 15 years & under this summer, the grommets of South Australia really turned it on.

The top three placing went to Matthew D'Amdrosio (VIC), Jordan Daniels (VIC) & Tim Griffiths (TAS). Matthew put his body on the line all day down the nine so he was rewarded with a win in what has been the toughest 15 Years & U division to judge this summer. Up to ten skaters could have made the final and been rewarded with a trip to the east coast.

The 18 Years & Under Girls saw 2009 Australian female champion Jennifer Oakes (SA) take on Maddison Hay (SA) head to head in the final. Maddison managed to one up her long time rival with clean display of tricks in the city bowl. The clean run by Maddison allowed her to take a close win over Jennifer who wasn’t quite in her usual from. A return battle will be closely watched at the series finals in Sydney.

The 18 Years & Under Boys was run after lunch and with a solid crowd on hand to watch the action and the skaters didn’t disappoint. Josh Morrell (SA) lit up the crowd with a 50 down the ten rail and a switch nollie down the nine. In the same heat Michael Denby (SA) was also on a roll landing a back 5-0 and a smith down the nine. This insane heat meant someone had to miss out on a spot in the final and unfortunately it was Brett Young (SA). Brett finished 2nd in Australia in 2009 but was unable to even make the finals of the state round in 2010, that’s how much talent there was South OZ.

In the end the division was taken out by Dylan Ravet (SA) with a mental all out attack on the entire park. Dylan was super fast and super smooth, busting out some huge tricks on the nine and ten sets. Dylan will have some sweet highlights in the edited clip for us all to see.

That left the final division of the day to five of the best  18 Years & Under Sponsored skaters in the state, and solo traveling New South Welshman Rylan McNeil (NSW). Rylan took out 5th place in the 2009 Australia Dew series final, but in Adelaide in 2010 he was unable to beat local shredder Justin Edwards (SA). Justin was one song all day linking tricks and mixing his lines taking the win over Rylan & Angus Thomas (SA).

Justin landed a sweet front feeble on the ten rail along with a hardflip down the nine. The kids in SA rip and they will be the ones to beat in Sydney. You have been warned!
