Maddington (WA) skateboarder Joshua McMurray has won the Recreate!

Office for Youth Award for excellence in sport and recreation earning $2000 in prize money as well as a trophy.

City of Gosnells Youth Services nominated the 17 year old for the prize at the 2010 WA Youth Awards and Mayor Olwen Searle attended the presentation ceremony along with his family and friends.

“The City nominated Josh for his proactive approach to youth leadership,” the Mayor said.

“As part of the Maddington Skate Park Users group, he volunteers his free time to help run skate park events and judge competitions.

“Josh is a wonderful role model for young people in his community.”

A talented skateboarder, he is the current 18 and under sponsored division champion of the Australian SbA Dew Series and already has several sponsors.
